____________   is the modification of a car to optimise it for a different set of performance requirements from those it was originally designed to meet. Most commonly this is higher engine performance and dynamic handling characteristics but cars may also be altered to provide better fuel economy, or smoother response.

Problem: 

Vehicles need a external programming tool to tune the engines for performace gains. These products are expensive and time consuming. You have to email back and forth with the company to get a customized tune specific to your vehicle. This process can easily take weeks up into months. By then you could already need a new tune for your vehicle. 

Brief: 

Vehicle tuning has been gaining popularity over the last few years, with more users modify vehicles but with less experience. There is a lot of potential for tuning systems to lower the learning curve, expense, and time requred to tune your vehicles.  

 

Solution:

Take the external vehicle tuning device and create a platform for it to be used with a tablet or smart phone device. Skipping equiptment costs and having it direclty on your device. This also makes diagnosing your vehicle on the road much more efficient.

 


Problem Analysis  //

Interview: 

I conducted an interview with a car enthusiest to understand the process of modifying your car and what was the single most difficult part about the process. From there I mapped out their process to understand the largest painpoints and areas of opportunity. 

Scenario:

Patrick is looking to get his truck tuned for the modifications he has made. He has to send out data from his truck to a tuning company for them to build spcific tunes for his truck. 

Goals: 

-Application for phone/tablet, eliminates need for external device data readings.

-All in one program, less going back and forth between devices, products and car tuning companies.

Concept Ideation

Using the insights and information derived from Patrick's journey map, I developed 12 quickconcepts to test. These ideations were tested against Patrick's problems for possible solutions and opportunities. 

 

Vision Statement: 

-How might we design the tuning process to be less expensive and time consuming?

-How might we design this process to work more during the (Lag Time)?

Prototype Testing 

Through testing different concepts I learned that a Detachable tablet/ phone configuration was the easiest and most accessable while working on a vehicle. 

Users stressed that having a product on their own device made the whole process less complicated.

Mocked up wireframe with data used from the user map and tested out diffrent flows of the users experience.

Design Specifications 

From the user testing I used the positive results and created a digital wireframe on Axure to create  a click through prototype. 

 

 

 

 

 

Next I started to add a color palette to enrich the testing for the final deliverable.
